Tim Tipene (Papa Tim) created Warrior Kids in 1994.
Tim has provided Warrior Kids to schools and communities for 17 years, teaching thousands of children. He has trained teachers, psychologists, counsellors, social workers, youth workers, coaches and martial art instructors.
Tim is a trained counsellor with a graduate certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

Tim is the founder and leading instructor of Constructive Response, de-escalation and containment of aggressive behaviour.
As a qualified martial arts instructor Tim accumulated a total of 12 Dan Black Belt ranks. In 2009 Tim was graded to 5th Dan Black Belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and made a member of the Budo Taijutsu Instructors Association, (Japan). In 2007 he was awarded a 5th Dan Black Belt in Ai Shin Do Bujutsu from instructors in New Zealand & Australia for his contribution to the martial arts, and in 1992 he was graded to 2nd Dan Black Belt in Go Shintai Kai Karate & Judo and appointed the position of Chief Instructor. Tim also has experience in the security industry. Tim no longer trains in the above arts.
Tim has been a self defence instructor for women, an advocate for intellectually challenged adults and a facilitator of Anger Management and Living Without Violence programmes for men.
Tim is the award winning author of a number of New Zealand books including Hinemoa te toa, which received two awards in the 2009 LIANZA Children’s Book Awards: Te Tohu Pounamu mo te wahanga Kaiwhakamaori and Te Tohu Taurapa mo te whahanga Pukapuka Pikitia.
Haere, Farewell Jack farewell received a Picture Book Honour Award at the 2006 New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children & Young Adults.
Taming the Taniwha was selected for the White Ravens International Youth Library Catalogue as one of the world's top 250 children's books for 2002.
Other books by Tim include Rewa Finds His Wings, Warrior Kids, Kura Toa Warrior School and The Wooden Fish, and his work has appeared in a number of anthologies and school journals.
Tim is also an active board member of the The Storylines Children’s Literature Charitable Trust.
Tim has featured on television, radio and in various publications. He lives in the Waitakere Ranges on Auckland’s west coast and is the father of two children.
